An Illinois Barn Resurrected in Wash Park
Our crew traveled east along I-70 across four states and began disassembling a turn-of-the-century barn in Illinois farm country, only to bring it back to Colorado and resurrect it in a Wash Park home. Built with wood peg post and beam construction with local southern Illinois white and red oak trees, the barn was originally used for housing corn cribs, horses and wagons, and had hay and grain storage on the upper level. The exterior of the barn was built of white pine and was covered with metal a half century ago, which preserved the wood leaving it in excellent condition. The Pleitner family owned the barn and farmed the land on which it stood for more than 100 years. We obtained the barn from a family member who still farms the land there today.
